****SCAM ALERT***** The Randolph County Sheriff's Office has received several reports of someone pretending to be a Federal Officer. The officer tells the victim there is an arrest warrant for them for failing to give a DNA sample or missing court. They request a payment to avoid the warrant. Please know: THIS IS A SCAM.
They do NOT call to tell you we have warrants for your arrest.
They do NOT dismiss warrants for arrest.
They do NOT accept payment in any form, even gift cards, over the phone
If you receive this kind of phone call, HANG UP immediately.
REMEMBER:
• Don’t send money by prepaid card and don’t wire money. Wiring money is like sending cash. You usually can't reverse or trace the transaction.
• Don’t share your financial or personal information. Scammers can use your information to commit identity theft.
• Don’t trust a name or number that appears on your phone. Scammers can fake caller ID information.
If you received a call like this, please report it to the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) at www.ftc.gov and to your local Law Enforcement Office. If you sent money to an imposter on a prepaid card, report it to the card company’s fraud department.
