FOIA Request to Stanly County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Randolph County News have sent a request under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., to the Stanly County Election Department. The request was made for records of all candidates running in the upcoming spring election.
The specific details requested include the first, middle, and last names of each candidate, along with the office they are running for and its jurisdiction. We also asked for information about each candidate's party affiliation.
In addition to these details, we have also requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
