The Community Surveillance program serves as a way to quickly locate home or business security cameras, which they currently seek out by going door to door, when looking for evidence that could potentially solve a crime. Every agency in the county uses the same mapping system and are excited to have this new tool.
Leveraging the power of our community to deter and solve crime by working with our best resource: citizens!
The program is a great way to help deter and solve crime quickly in the community. Providing law enforcement with the location of security cameras empowers them with the information needed to catch criminals faster. And since the citizen owns the camera, their participation always remains 100% voluntary. The program is only mapping locations of a camera that may have potentially captured an criminal act. The agency will contact you to let you know there may have been something captured by your security camera that may be helpful in a case. You can check your footage and advise if you see anything that might help in a conviction of a suspect in a crime. No agency will have access to use of your camera. You maintain control. Additionally, we will provide participants with window decals that advertise their participation, if they would like. Participation alone could possibly deter/prevent it altogether.
