City of Asheboro issued the following announcement on March 31.
As a result of federal, state and other local authorities having issued updated directives to take preventive and proactive measures to limit the spread of COVID-19, Asheboro Cultural & Recreation Services announces the following operational changes.
- The Recreation Office will operate with restricted access.
- The Recreation Center, Skate Park, and Sunset Theatre are closed for all programs and rentals until further notice.
- All playgrounds at City parks and recreational facilities are closed.
- The Asheboro Municipal Golf Course will operate daily, weather permitting, from 7:30am – 6:00pm. Additional measures will be taken to ensure proper social distancing and the health and safety of staff and patrons, including the closure of the pro shop to the public; ceasing of cart rentals; removal of sand trap rakes; and no removal of flagsticks by patrons.
- Lake Lucas and Lake Reese will operate under normal hours of operation. Private boat launching and bank fishing are still permitted as long as social distancing requirements are followed. Additional measures will be taken to ensure proper social distancing and the health and safety of staff and patrons, including the closure of the lake offices to the public; and ceasing of boat rentals at Lake Lucas.
- Existing facility rentals, including picnic shelter rentals, will be canceled and until further notice no new rentals will be booked. Refunds will be issued to all canceled events.
- All youth and adult athletic practices, meetings, and games are suspended until further notice.
- The Randolph County Senior Games are suspended and will be rescheduled for a later date if possible.
- Randolph County Special Olympic Spring Games are canceled.
