Recently, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office has responded to several calls regarding illegal dumping. Thought we would share some information and tips for citizens regarding disposing of items. #TipTuesday.
* No littering and No illegally dumping items on the side of roadways or in fields/other’s property. If the convenience sites do not take the items, take them to the landfill for proper disposal.
What can you do if you are the victim of an illegal dumping incident? The first thing to do is to call the County’s Planning and Zoning office at 336-318-6561 and ask to speak to a code enforcement officer who will come to the site to begin an investigation. If a suspect can be determined, that person will be asked to clean the debris up or face a fine of up to $500 per day. While illegal dumping is a criminal offense, the Planning Office does not typically initiate a report to the Randolph County Sheriff's Department. That is up to the property owner, who can report the offense to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office for investigation.
* There are five (5) convenience sites in Randolph County in addition to the Solid Waste Facility (landfill). Convenience sites are free to Randolph County residences. The convenience site locations and hours are listed on the website:

*For oil, antifreeze, lead batteries, cooking oil, scrap tires, scrap metal, white goods, and electronics; citizens should go to the Solid Waste Facility at 1287 County Land Road. You may call Waste Management at 336-628-6026 for more information.
* Latex paint is allowed as long as it is dried up or mixed with cat litter or shavings. Oil based paints are not accepted but can be brought to an annual Household Hazardous (HHW) event held in mid-October (keep check of the County’s website or Facebook for details).
