On Sunday, January 31, 2021, Lindsey Aldrich was traveling east on NC 159 heading to work when she was involved in a motor vehicle accident near Flag Springs UMC. A call went in to 911 and the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched with NC SHP and EMS. Deputy Riffe was one of the first to arrive at the scene following a firefighter with Ulah FD (Firefighter East). Deputies Riffe and Phillips assisted Firefighter East in using the jaws of life to extricate Aldrich.
Randolph County EMS responded and she was transported to Randolph Health. Aldrich’s place of work called her parents to check to see if she was coming to work and they reported that she should have already been there. Her father checked the Life360 App and noticed that she had been in the same location for some time. By the time they arrived she had already been transported to Randolph Health. She was later transferred to Moses Cone. Aldrich endured multiple life-threatening injuries that caused her to remain unconscious in the Neuro ICU for some time.
In February 2021, Lindsey had been making big strides in her recovery and finally taken off the ventilator and converted to a trach. She was accepted to the Shepherd’s Center in Atlanta for rehabilitation and was transported there on Friday, February 26, 2021.
On April 23, 2021, they removed the trach and completed inpatient therapy.
At the end of May 2021, She was able to go home and was able to walk across the stage at her graduation.
Today, a year and almost four months later, Aldrich was able to meet the first responders credited for quick response and great work to save her life as well as those who prayed over her that day.
