Randolph County Government was recently awarded 2021 Industry of the Year at the Asheboro/Randolph Chamber’s Annual Meeting. The annual event was held on Friday, March 11 at Pinewood Country Club with nearly 200 attendees. Typically held every January, the event was originally postponed due to COVID-19 safety precautions.

The County was selected as the 2021 Industry of the Year due to its exhibition of tremendous leadership and foresight in addressing numerous critical issues over the past year. The efforts of the County have led to multiple capital improvement projects that have enhanced Randolph County’s education, public health, and emergency services. “It is unimaginable to think where we would be without the leadership and support of our County Commissioners and the County staff. Their support of education, workforce development, infrastructure, and public health and wellness not only addresses current challenges but has put us in a position to be prepared for the future,” said Linda Brown, President, Asheboro/Randolph Chamber.

In 2021, the County pledged $1.1 million in health, safety, and well-being grants to organizations throughout the community. Grant funding was also dispersed to Randolph County School System, Asheboro City Schools, and Randolph Community College to advance workforce development programs. Additionally, the County provided the first financial commitment to the Megasite project, now widely known as Toyota Battery Manufacturing, North Carolina. Randolph County also secured $12 million in Rural Stabilization Funds from the North Carolina budget to ensure that a local hospital remained open and accessible to citizens. The county was also recognized as the 18th Healthiest Workplace in America by Healthiest Employers®.

“The Randolph County Board of Commissioners are honored to accept this special recognition presented by the Asheboro/Randolph Chamber. We are especially thankful to the over 900 employees in over 22 County Departments and Agencies for their service and dedication that was integral in bringing this special recognition to all of Randolph County government. We hope to continue to exemplify the County’s mission to serve with heart, from the heart of North Carolina,” said County Manager, Hal Johnson.

Each year, the Asheboro/Randolph Chamber recognizes local businesses, organizations, and community leaders for their contributions to Randolph County. Annual awards include Business of the Year, Industry of the Year, Organization of the Year, Chamber Volunteer of the Year, Emerging Leader Award, Athena Award, and Citizen(s) of the Year. Overall criteria for selection include the active demonstration of positive support and growth of the Randolph County community. Award winners should also exemplify the Asheboro/Randolph Chamber’s mission to make Asheboro and Randolph County a great place to live, work, and do business.
