City of Asheboro recently issued the following announcement.
Friends and Neighbors:
The state’s Coronavirus Task Force announced that the number of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in North Carolina had stabilized. Unfortunately, here in Randolph County, this week we have seen a significant increase in infections with more than 400 cases confirmed. Over half of these cases have been located in zip codes encompassing Asheboro, and four of the county’s six deaths sadly have included residents of these areas.
Without question, more testing has contributed to the rise of confirmed cases, but as we continue with Phase 1 of the state’s plan to reopen North Carolina, I ask that we all remain vigilant and cautious so that we can see that same “flattening of the curve“ in Randolph County. The ability to continue re-opening the state will depend on our commitment to practicing sensible social distancing, wearing masks when out in public, and frequently washing hands.
I, like all of you, am eager to re-open Asheboro and all of North Carolina. I recognize and understand that this virus and the restrictions put in place for our safety have caused tremendous hardship for many and concern for us all. But, I want to reassure you, we will get through this together, as one united community, with the compassion and kindness that makes Asheboro and Randolph County such a special place.
