The North Carolina Department of Safety (NCDPS) recently conducted a school supply drive and designated Asheboro City Schools and the Randolph County School System (RCSS) as recipients of the supplies.
The Secretary of the NCDPS, Eddie Buffaloe, along with David Wall (Chief Court Counselor) and Emily T. Coltrane (Piedmont Area Administrator) from the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Division (JJDPD), visited Liberty Elementary School on October 10 to personally present supplies to RCSS. Supplies were delivered by the North Carolina National Guard to the school on September 28.
As part of his visit, Secretary Buffaloe led an informal meeting with the JJDPD staff members, RCSS Superintendent Dr. Stephen Gainey, Liberty Elementary School Principal Dana Albright-Johnson, Liberty Elementary School Assistant Principal Corey Culp, and School Resource Officer Billy Wiker from Northeastern Randolph Middle School.
Mr. Buffaloe also visited with Liberty fourth graders and answered their questions.
Communities in Schools of North Carolina has been the principal partner with the governor's office on this project for several years in order to facilitate equitable distribution of supplies. Communities in Schools of Randolph County staff members were on hand for the presentation of the supplies, which were collected at State Employee Credit Union branches.
