The Randolph women's soccer team made a mid-week trip to North Carolina to face Salem College on Wednesday. The teams were deadlocked at 0-0 until the WildCats were granted a penalty kick in the 89th minute which they converted as they would go on to win 1-0.
Randolph improves to 2-0-2. The Sprits drop to 3-2.
The WildCats dominated in total shots 32-5. Shots on goal were in Randolph's favor 13-1.
Stellar play by Salem keeper Jordan Tomberlin kept the game scoreless. Tomberlin finished with 11 saves on the day.
The teams seemed destined to finish in a 0-0 deadlock as time wound down in the second half. Following a Randolph corner kick at 88:32, a foul was called inside the penalty area. Alana Ellis (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) came on to attempt the kick and made the shot for the game winning score. It was her first collegiate goal.
Alexis Bossi (Falls Church, Va./Justice) stopped one shot in goal for the WildCats in securing her first shutout of the season.
Randolph returns home to host Washington Adventist on Sunday afternoon. Game time will be at 4:00 p.m.
