CITY OF ASHEBORO

PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE

The City of Asheboro (the “City”) is considering the appropriation of funding to the following non-profit entities for economic development purposes unrelated to real property or business location incentives.

$125,000 to the Asheboro/Randolph Chamber of Commerce for the following services: (1) Small business assistance, resources, and advocacy; (2) Business development, including a joint program with Venture Asheboro; (3) Community events and promotion; (4) Local youth and adult leadership training; and (5) Downtown/Center City development and support, including office support for Downtown Asheboro Inc.

$120,000 to Downtown Asheboro Inc in support of the non-profit corporation’s leadership of revitalization efforts in Asheboro’s historic core. These revitalization efforts focus on cross-sector promotion, design, and economic development in order to foster an eclectic retail, dining, and arts hub in downtown Asheboro.

$55,000 to the Randolph County Economic Development Corporation for the following services: (1) New industrial/manufacturing company recruitment and site selection services; (2) Existing industry/manufacturing technical assistance; (3) Training assistance; (4) Installment financing assistance; (5) State economic development incentives information and assistance; and (6) International trade services and information.

The Asheboro City Council will hold a public hearing on the question of whether the above-listed appropriations will assist with increasing the population, taxable property, agricultural industries, employment, industrial output, or business prospects of the city. The public hearing will be held during the city council’s next regular meeting, which will begin at 7:00 p.m. on September 8, 2022, in the council chamber on the second floor of Asheboro City Hall, 146 N. Church Street, Asheboro, North Carolina 27203. At this hearing, oral and written comments will be received from individuals who wish to be heard on this subject.
