All county departments were selected as 2021 Safety Award recipients.

Randolph County Emergency Services received a first-year silver award, while both Randolph County General Services and the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office were awarded first-year gold awards. Randolph County Health Department, Public Library, and Tax Departments received gold awards, in the second, seventh, and eighth-year categories, respectively. Randolph County Department of Social Services was also honored with an eighteenth-year gold award, while Randolph County Public Works achieved a twentieth-year gold award.

“We are very proud of the Departments recognized today and the over 900 employees of Randolph County government who make risk awareness and safety a priority as they serve the citizens of Randolph County,” said Hal Johnson, County Manager.

The North Carolina Department of Labor’s Safety Awards Program recognizes public and private firms throughout the state that achieve and maintain good safety records. The program is designed to stimulate interest in accident prevention and to promote safety in the workplace by providing an incentive to employees to maintain a safe and healthful workplace.

To qualify for an annual safety award a firm must have no fatalities during the calendar year at the site or location the award was given and, have maintained an incidence rate of less than 50% below the average for its particular industry group. The Gold Award is based on the days away, restricted, transferred rate. The silver award is based only on cases with days away from work. North Carolina Commissioner of Labor, Josh Dobson, spoke with attendees about the importance of workplace safety and extended congratulations to winning businesses and organizations. “The North Carolina Department of Labor couldn’t be more excited to extend our congratulations to the firms across Randolph County who are truly dedicated to workplace safety and the well-being of their employees. There is no better way to kick off our Safety Awards banquet season than to start with Asheboro,” said Dobson.
