Randolph County Sheriff's Office issued the following announcement on Feb. 8.
Safer Internet Day is an international awareness event for encouraging safer internet use and a day to try to prioritize this message to students. This designated day started back in 2004 in Europe and has now spread to over 200 counties. Recently the ICACs have joined this movement and are trying to promote safer internet usage with this messaging as well.
This year, Safer Internet Day was Tuesday, February 8th. Safer Internet Day encompasses ALL aspects of online safety (Cyberbullying, social media, digital identity, etc), with a special focus each year. This year’s highlight is Sextortion, focusing on associated online risks and the importance of parents talking with their kids about the risks.
Let’s #StartTheConversation about sextortion, the online exploitation crime directed toward children in which coercion or blackmail are used.
