Randolph County School System issued the following announcement on Jan. 27.
This is Stephen Gainey. I am calling to make you aware of a possible change regarding the school system’s plan for inclement weather days. At the present time, our school system has two more days of school that can be missed due to inclement weather without having to make them up. However, if more than those two days are missed due to inclement weather during the 2021-2022 school year, the additional days will be changed to “remote instruction days.” Without this action, the additional days would have to be made up on scheduled teacher workdays and/or during Spring Break. At the present time, staff members at schools are preparing for potential “remote instruction days” in the coming weeks. I am calling to share this possible change in our operations since it could lead to your child bringing home additional instructional materials and/or technology devices when possible school closures due to inclement weather exist, especially with this coming weekend. For example, if inclement weather arrives this weekend and leads to the closing of school for three days, the third day would become a “remote instruction day.” Thus, it is likely that your child will come home from school with additional instructional materials and/or technology devices tomorrow in preparation for the possible impact of the weather on our ability to have school next week. Nonetheless, if a missed day of school becomes a “remote instruction day,” it will be clearly identified as a “remote instruction day” on the telephone call to student homes at that time.
