Thomasville Man Arrested On Attempted Murder & Arson Charges

City of Thomasville issued the following announcement on Jan. 7.

Thomasville Detectives have charged Jason Ray Weeks, 48, of Thomasville, on felony charges of first degree arson and attempted murder in connection with a fire, which occurred on January 5, 2022. On Wednesday January 5, at 6:08 p.m., Thomasville Fire Department responded to 704 Kahler Street in reference to a structure fire. Upon arrival, the duplex apartment Unit A and B were engulfed in flames. The residence was completely destroyed by the fire Thomasville Fire Department (TFD) located the suspect, Jason Weeks, who then attempted to run into the burning apartment but firem en intervened. 

Weeks then fled on foot towards Salem Street The male victim in Unit A informed Thomasville Police Department that Jason Weeks threatened to kill the victim. The victim smelled and saw smoke exiting the duplex but was initially unable to exit due to Weeks holding the victim's door shut and yelling, “You're going to die." Thomasville Police Officers encountered Weeks running north in the 700 block of Salem Street where a brief foot pursuit ensued. Weeks was taken into custody without incident. An investigation into the cause of the fire was launched and was led by TPD and Thomasville Fire Marshall's Office. After presenting information gained in the investigation to the Davidson County District Attorney's Office, detectives obtained warrants on Weeks. Jason Weeks is chargedwith attempted first degree murder and first degree arson. The first degree arson charge is a result of the victim's residence sustaining fire damage while it was occupied.
