City of Asheboro issued the following announcement on Sept. 9.
On Saturday, September 11, at approximately 8:46 am, the Asheboro Fire Department sound the Federal Q ( siren) for 15 seconds to remember the loss of Flight 11 that crashed into the North Tower (1 WTC) of the World Trade Center and the loss of Flight 175 that crashed into the South Tower (2 WTC) of the World Trade Center six minutes later. At 10:03 am, a second sounding of the Federal Q occur for 15 seconds to remember the loss of Flight 77 that crashed into the western side of the Pentagon and the loss of Flight 93 in southwestern Pennsylvania.
In addition to these observances, several Asheboro Firefighters are participating in a 9/11 ruck walk/run tribute. Please remember the emergency personnel, civilians and families of those lost on this tragic day and never forget those who perished saving the lives of others.
