Randolph County and North Carolina high school students have until Monday, Nov. 30 to register for Ready, Set, App!, a competition where a mobile app is created to solve a real-world problem.
“Ready, Set, App! is an exciting opportunity for students to develop their technical skills while working together to solve a problem they’ve identified in their community,” Gov. Roy Cooper said in a Nov. 12 release posted on the North Carolina Office of the Governor’s website. “High schoolers have lots of creative ideas, energy and passion, and we can’t wait to see what they come up with.”
The competition is in its second year and is open to students attending North Carolina public and charter high schools, the release said. Students work together in teams to develop an original and functional Android mobile application that helps address a school or community problem.
Ready, Set, App! is a collaboration between the North Carolina Business Committee for Education and technology company Lenovo.
“Lenovo is dedicated to advancing STEM education and increasing access to opportunity for diverse population,” Libby Richards, North America community engagement manager at Lenovo, said in the release. “The Ready, Set, App! Competition’s focus on community problem solving provides students the opportunity to create real change, and to build valuable skills in coding and programming.”
