With schools receiving the green light to reopen for full in-person classroom instructions, Randolph County education leaders are preparing for the change to meet the mid-October start date.
Gov. Roy Cooper recently said that schools could start in-person learning on Monday, Oct. 19, but also will allow parents the option to have their children to continue remote instruction instead of learning in their respective school buildings.
My Fox 8 reported on Sept. 22 that Randolph educators would have kindergarten through fifth-grade students return fulltime to school on Oct. 19.
"Obviously, when you bring more students back the possibility for more cases does increase, but we're going to keep running the same processes," Randolph County School System Superintendent Dr. Stephen Gainey said, My Fox 8 reported.
The superintendent, according to My Fox 8, is confident that the district's schools will be ready for the October opening.
"I'm a big advocate for our children getting back into school, for my child personally I think she's suffering, I think she's digressing some," Renee Reed, who has a child in second grade, said, My Fox 8 reported. "We know COVID is real, we don't want it in our home, however, we want to get back in schools and we don't want to live in fear."
