Randolph Community College said that it will offer an online “Medication Aide” course and a night and day “Nursing Assistant I” courses, starting Monday, Aug. 17.

The Medication Aide course is for individuals lacking the requirements to receive a license from the North Carolina Board of Nursing to practice as a medication aide. The classes will provide long-term care nursing abilities as required by the state of North Carolina, Randolph College said in a post about the news courses

The Nursing Assistant I program focuses on the basic nursing skills needed for the profession, Randolph College said in a post about the news courses. The course teaches about providing safe, competent personal care. Topics include person-centered care, the aging process, communication, safety/emergencies and infection prevention.

To register, a student needs a high school diploma or equivalency and is at least 18 years of age, Randolph College said in a post about the news courses. They must be currently listed with the Division of Health Service Regulation as a Nurse Aide I. Students can't have any records of abuse, neglect, or misappropriation of resources.

Additionally, eligible students must provide proof of completion of a minimum 75-hour, state-approved Nurse Aide I course. Students must present their Social Security card (name must match a government-issued photo ID). People who want to participate must have their government-issued photo ID ready as well.
