The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office announced on May 15 that its Vice Narcotics Unit concluded an investigation resulting in the arrest of two individuals for methamphetamine trafficking. The arrests followed a traffic stop conducted by the Vice Narcotics Enforcement Team on US Highway 64 West in Asheboro.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, detectives seized approximately one kilogram (2.2 pounds) of methamphetamine and U.S. currency during the stop. Both occupants of the vehicle were arrested and transported to Randolph County Detention Center.
The individuals, identified as Alex Junior Galarza, age 38, and Alejandro Galarza Escobar, age 56, were each charged with two counts of felony trafficking in methamphetamine, felony maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for controlled substance, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Both received no bond.
A first appearance for both defendants is scheduled for May 18 in Randolph County District Court.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to address illegal drug activity within Randolph County.
