Asheboro Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center was recognized as the third largest nursing home in Randolph County for the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.
The facility operated with 100 available beds, which was 20 below the county average for that period, and assisted an average of 93.3 individuals daily in the quarter.
The nursing home received an overall CMS rating of 2 out of 5, which was below the North Carolina state average of 2.9 for similar facilities.
For the same timeframe, Alpine Health and Rehabilitation of Asheboro was the largest in Randolph County with 238 available beds, and The Graybrier Nursing and Retirement Center ranked second, operating 128 beds.
Through the first quarter of 2026, Asheboro Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center incurred one penalty and total fines amounting to $32,273.
Randolph County, North Carolina, was home to six for-profit nursing homes during the period studied.
U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the population of older adults nationwide is rising, while younger groups are shrinking. From 2020 to 2024, Americans ages 65 and older increased by 13%, as the under-18 population declined 1.7%. Over the past 100 years, the older adult demographic in the United States has expanded significantly, growing from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.
A 2021 analysis suggests that roughly half of older Americans, or about 28 million people, could need long-term services and supports. More than one-third may eventually require nursing facility care, according to the report.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” Jesse Slome said, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
