During the first quarter of 2026, Alpine Health and Rehabilitation of Asheboro was recognized as Randolph County’s largest nursing home, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

The facility offered 238 beds, which is 118 above the county’s first-quarter 2026 average. During this time frame, on average, 132.8 residents received care at the center.

Alpine Health and Rehabilitation of Asheboro received a top overall score of 5 out of 5 from the CMS, surpassing the North Carolina nursing home average of 2.9.

The second largest nursing facility in Randolph County for the quarter was The Graybrier Nursing and Retirement Center, with 128 beds available. Asheboro Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center ranked third with 100 beds available.

Alpine Health and Rehabilitation of Asheboro maintained a zero-incident record for both fines and penalties in the first quarter of 2026.

Altogether, six for-profit nursing homes operated in Randolph County, North Carolina.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau show the population of older adults in the United States continues to rise, while younger age groups see a decline. From 2020 to 2024, Americans age 65 and older increased by 13%, and those under 18 decreased by 1.7%. Over the last hundred years, the nation’s older adult population sharply expanded, growing from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.

A study released in 2021 indicates that nearly half of that age group—approximately 28 million people—may end up needing long-term services and supports. The research further predicts more than one-third could ultimately require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
